In 1996, after Thai businessman, Wichan Jaratarcha, adopted a stray part-Siamese cat named Phet during a hunting trip near Burma, his business flourished. He honored Phet with a bride named Ploy, which arrived to the wedding via helicopter, and a lavish wedding with 500 non-feline guests. A parrot and an iguana stood up for the couple. Jaratarcha paid a dowry of 1 million baht in cash and a half million in gold to Ploy’s owner. The wedding presents by the guests were donated to animal welfare charities.
